Mellieha Bay (Ghadira) - Mellieha, Malta |
Interactive Map
|
|
The largest sandy beach, and also the most popular with tourists and locals alike.
The more popular name for this beach is Ghadira, meaning pool. That's beacuse once there were salt marsh lands
behind the beach. Nowadays they have been converted to a Nature reserve.
This beach is busy night and day. It's ideal for children, comfortably situated by the road so you don't need to walk much.
The beach is divided in three or four sections, try to stick towards the middle becuase the sides are a little rocky.
You will find all you need once there. Various kiosks offer snacks, food, drinks, sunbeds, umbrellas and all the rest.

Getting there. Go to Mellieha first and then follow the signs to Ghadira or Mellieha Bay. You
can also follow the signs to the Gozo Ferry as it is on the way. You won't miss this one!
Bus No. 44 ends
here from Valletta. No need to walk, just jump from the bus straight to the sea! Bus No. 45 will also pass by.
Take care of the busy hour when going back home by bus, it can be a little frustrating. Leave early or leave late, just avoid 5pm.
